The Lucky Class Contest is a reading incentive program for elementary school students in the United States. The goal of the contest is to promote reading comprehension and to encourage students to read for pleasure. The contest is sponsored by the National Education Association (NEA) and the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE).
How the Contest Works
To participate in the Lucky Class Contest, students must read at least 10 books during the school year. Students can read any type of book, including fiction, nonfiction, poetry, and graphic novels. Once students have read 10 books, they can enter their names into a drawing for a chance to win a prize.
Prizes for the Lucky Class Contest include:
- A set of books for the student's classroom
- A gift certificate to a bookstore
- A visit from an author
In addition to the individual prizes, the school with the most students participating in the contest will win a grand prize. The grand prize includes a set of books for the school library, a gift certificate to a bookstore, and a visit from an author.
Benefits of the Contest
The Lucky Class Contest has a number of benefits for students, teachers, and schools. For students, the contest provides an incentive to read for pleasure. The contest also helps students to develop their reading comprehension skills. For teachers, the contest provides a way to motivate students to read. The contest also helps teachers to identify students who need additional support with their reading. For schools, the contest promotes a positive reading culture. The contest also helps schools to build their libraries.
How to Enter the Contest
Students can enter the Lucky Class Contest by filling out an entry form. The entry form includes the student's name, school, and the number of books the student has read. Students can also submit a reading log as proof of their reading. Entry forms can be downloaded from the NEA website.
The deadline for the Lucky Class Contest is April 30th.
