Early Life and Career
Rosalind Russell was born on June 4, 1907, in Waterbury, Connecticut. Her father was a lawyer and her mother was a homemaker. Russell attended the University of Utah for one year before dropping out to pursue a career in acting. She made her Broadway debut in 1929 in the play The Second Man. Russell quickly became a successful stage actress, appearing in a number of Broadway productions throughout the 1930s.
In 1936, Russell made her film debut in the movie Craig's Wife. She went on to star in a number of successful films throughout the 1940s and 1950s, including The Women (1939),His Girl Friday (1940),Auntie Mame (1958),and Gypsy (1962). Russell was nominated for four Academy Awards for her performances in The Women, His Girl Friday, Auntie Mame, and Gypsy. She won a Golden Globe Award for her performance in Auntie Mame.
Personal Life
Rosalind Russell was married twice. Her first marriage was to actor Fred MacMurray in 1929. The couple divorced in 1936. Russell married again in 1941 to producer Gilbert Roland. The couple had one child, a daughter named Tracy. Russell and Roland remained married until Roland's death in 1994.
Later Career and Death
Russell continued to act throughout the 1960s and 1970s. She appeared in a number of television shows and movies, including The Love Boat, Fantasy Island, and Murder, She Wrote. Russell died of breast cancer on November 28, 1976, at the age of 69.

Rosalind Russell was one of the most popular and successful actresses of her time. She was known for her wit, intelligence, and impeccable style.
