Materials:
- 1 skein (100 grams) of worsted-weight yarn in your desired color
- US size 8 (5mm) knitting needles
- Yarn needle
- Scissors
Gauge:
18 stitches and 24 rows = 4 inches in stockinette stitch
Abbreviations:
- CO: Cast on
- K: Knit
- P: Purl
- SSK: Slip, slip, knit
- K2tog: Knit two together
- BO: Bind off
Instructions:
Cast on 40 stitches.
Row 1: K2, P2, repeat to end of row.
Row 2: P2, K2, repeat to end of row.
Repeat rows 1-2 for 4 inches, or until the headband is the desired length.
Earflaps:
Row 1: CO 10 stitches, K10, CO 10 stitches.
Row 2: K across all 30 stitches.
Rows 3-6: Work in stockinette stitch (knit the knit stitches, purl the purl stitches).
Row 7: SSK, K6, K2tog, K4, K2tog, K6, SSK.
Rows 8-10: Work in stockinette stitch.
Row 11: BO 3, K24, BO 3.
Make a second earflap in the same way.
Sew the earflaps to the headband by sewing around the edges.
Weave in any loose ends and you're finished!
Tips:
- If you want a wider headband, cast on more stitches.
- If you want a narrower headband, cast on fewer stitches.
- If you want longer earflaps, work more rows in the earflap section.
- If you want shorter earflaps, work fewer rows in the earflap section.
- You can use any color or type of yarn you like.
